Message from Rev. Alex Diaz

About our team

Alex & Maria Diaz

Rev. Alex's desire to plant a church has been nurtured since before his days as a seminary student at Moody Bible Institute and was further developed at Grimke´ Seminary. By God’s grace, Alex helped revitalize Citylights Church Chicago, and during his tenure as a pastor, the call to church plant became clear.

With a strong conviction to plant a church while witnessing God’s ordinary means of grace through the lives that have been transformed by the proclamation of the gospel, Alex and Maria uprooted their lives from Chicago to move to the West Valley of Phoenix with the intention to plant a confessionally reformed church where individuals from diverse backgrounds can come together according to the grace of God to worship and walk with Christ.

Our denomination

The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)

“What is the PCA? ” The PCA, or The Presbyterian Church in America, is one small part of Christ’s church. It officially started in 1973 by a group of Presbyterian pastors and has, since its inception, attempted to live by its guiding slogan, to be “faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission.”

Our denomination strives to do the following:

  • To be faithful to the teaching of the Bible

The Holy Scriptures are our supreme authority for faith and life. Hopefully all of our churches are known for their robustly Biblical preaching and an unflinching desire to take every thought captive to what God has said in Scripture. This begins with understanding the Bible but is not complete until we are changed by its teaching.

  • To actively carry out Jesus’ command to make mature disciples of all peoples

In chapter 28 of the Gospel of Mathew, the risen Christ entrusted his apostles, the leaders of his church, with a task which is to last until the end of history—to make and mature disciples of Christ. In keeping with this mission, the PCA seeks to reach out to those who are not followers of Christ with the good news of his Lordship, as well as assist those who are Jesus’ followers in obeying all the he has commanded.

  • To labor upon the theological foundation of the Protestant Reformation.

In other words, we seek to be a church which is historically informed and therefore recognizes the gift God has given his people in the work of our forefathers in the faith. We believe that the teaching rediscovered during the Protestant Reformation is especially helpful in this regard precisely because it is so faithful to the teaching of the Bible itself. Thus, the PCA is a confessional church and affirms the ancient truths for which Christians have lived and died in centuries past.

The King's Well Church is built on Christ and His Word as our true foundation and only hope.

1 Corinthians 3: 10-11

"According to God’s grace that was given to me, I have laid a foundation as a skilled master builder, and another builds on it. But each one is to be careful how he builds on it. For no one can lay any foundation other than what has been laid. That foundation is Jesus Christ."

The King’s Well is deeply rooted in the historic creeds and confession of the Church.

  • We affirm the Apostle's Creed

You can read more about the Apostle's Creed here: The Apostle's Creed.

  • We affirm the Nicene Creed

You can read more about the Nicene Creed here: The Nicene Creed.

  • We affirm the Westminster Standards

This includes the longer and shorter catechisms. You can read the Westminster Confession of Faith here: Westminster Confession of Faith.

Essentials of our faith

All Scripture is self-attesting, and being Truth requires our unreserved submission in all areas of life. The infallible Word of God—the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments—is a complete and unified witness to God’s redemptive acts culminating in the incarnation of the Living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible, uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks. On this sure foundation, we affirm these additional essentials of our faith.

7 Essentials

  • 1. We believe in one God...

We believe in one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. To Him be all honor, glory, and praise forever!

  • 2. Jesus Christ, the living Word...

Jesus Christ, the living Word, became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. He who is true God became true man united in one Person forever. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. On the third day He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He now is our High Priest and Mediator.

  • 3. The Holy Spirit has come to...

The Holy Spirit has come to glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to our hearts. He convicts us of sin and draws us to the Savior, indwelling our hearts. He gives new life to us, empowers and imparts gifts to us for service. He instructs and guides us into all truth, and seals us for the day of redemption.

  • 4. Being estranged from God...

Being estranged from God and condemned by our sinfulness, our salvation is wholly dependent upon the work of God’s free grace. God credits His righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation, and thereby justifies them in His sight. Only such as are born of the Holy Spirit and receive Jesus Christ become children of God and heirs of eternal life.

  • 5. The true Church is composed...

The true Church is made up of all people who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, are united in the body of Christ. This Church takes visible but imperfect shape in local congregations, where God's Word is faithfully preached, the sacraments are rightly administered, discipline is practiced according to Scripture, and loving fellowship is nurtured. In this visible church, which includes all who profess faith in Christ and their children, since families are seen as part of God’s covenant promise, membership is typically divided into non-communing members (usually children not yet taking communion) and communing members (those who have publicly professed faith). Together, these members reflect the Church’s presence on earth, shaped by Scripture, as she waits for full perfection at the return of her Lord.

  • 6. Jesus Christ will come again...

Jesus Christ will come again to the earth personally, visibly, and bodily—to judge the living and the dead, and to consummate history and the eternal plan of God. “Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).

  • 7. The Lord Jesus Christ commands...

The Lord Jesus Christ commands all believers to proclaim the gospel throughout the world and to make disciples of all nations. Obedience to the Great Commission requires total commitment to “Him who loved us and gave Himself for us.” He calls us to a life of self-denying love and service. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

Confessionally Reformed

  • Catholicity*

*Catholicity is the universal, all-embracing, and complete character of the Church and its faith. The King's Well is not affiliated with the Catholic Church.

Reformed churches embrace the doctrines of grace, asserting that salvation is a miraculous work of God, transforming hearts wholly rebellious against Him. These tenets are summarized by the acronym TULIP:

Total Depravity (Ephesians 2:1-6, Romans 8:7)

Unconditional Election (John 15:16, Romans 9:11-21)

Limited Atonement (Acts 20:28, John 10:11)

Irresistible Grace (John 6:37, Ezekiel 11:19) and

Perseverance of the Saints (Philippians 1:6, Romans 8:37-39).

These principles underscore God's sovereign role in salvation, challenging hearts, and guiding believers toward Christlike living.

  • Covenantal

Covenantal theology asserts that God's relationship with humanity has always been structured through covenants. The initial covenant of works, established in Eden, required perfect obedience for a harmonious connection with God. When this bond shattered due to human disobedience, God introduced the Covenant of Grace, offering salvation through faith in Christ. This faith, initially focused on the promise of a future Savior in Genesis 3, that encompassesAbraham's lineage, Israel's descendants, and David's line in the Old Testament.

Throughout this covenantal framework, God provided laws, including the timeless 10 Commandments, guiding His people's conduct. Genuine heirs of faith demonstrated obedience rooted in their trust in God, as the Law ultimately pointed to Christ's fulfillment and transformation of hearts towards obedience.

  • Confessional

Confessional signifies alignment with key historic Christian confessions, such as the Westminster Standards & Change, the Larger and Shorter Catechism, the Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort. These confessions complement, not supplant, the Bible's authority, serving to establish its proper interpretation regarding beliefs about God and human responsibilities.

Core Values

  • Intentionally Reformed

The King’s Well embraces the timeless teachings of the traditional councils, creeds, confessions, and catechisms, including the Westminster Confession of Faith. We affirm the significance of these beliefs for our community and church, emphasizing our connection as believers to the catholic (universal) church. This foundation guides our understanding and practice as we seek to faithfully live out our faith and share its truths with others.

  • Intentionally Missional

Revelation 7:9-10 describes a time when the church will gather before God to worship Him. At The King’s Well, we embody this vision by intentionally reaching people of diverse cultures, languages, and traditions within our membership and community, reflecting this reality in our leadership and fellowship. Through understanding, dialogue, and mutual respect, we aim to build bridges across cultures, inspired by the example of the early church in Antioch where believers were first called Christians, demonstrating God's love for all people.

  • Intentionally Community Focused

To be community-focused at The King’s Well is not merely about outward engagement, but rather about cultivating deep relationships and community within the church. Jesus, in His priestly prayer, assures the Apostles that through their testimony, we come to know Him (John 17:20). He further teaches that through knowing Him in this way, we are drawn into a profound community with Him, the Father, and the Spirit. This understanding shapes our commitment to fostering genuine fellowship and spiritual unity among our members as we grow together in faith and love.
